Wolf Parade - Apologies To The Queen MaryIt is seriously doubtful if there was a more eagerly anticipated album in 2005 than Wolf Parade's Apologies To The Queen Mary. The people associated with the album read like a who's-who of indie rock. Isaac Brock, the lead singer of Modest Mouse, helped to record the album. Since Wolf Parade are based in Montreal, they are good friends with Arcade Fire and Frog Eyes, who also lent a hand. In fact, there is so much star power that it is all together too easy to lose sight of just how brilliant Apologies is.

Wolf Parade's music is so energetic, and its vocalist so forceful, that listeners both listen and feel the music. Indeed, singer Dan Broeckner's delivery is sometimes so powerful and fast that is hard to makeout the lyrics, such as in "Modern World." But several repeat plays reveal that Wolf Parade lives in a word full of ghosts and nightmares. Sometimes , as in I'll Believe In Anything,"their songs have the feeling of an aural séance, conjuring trances and states.

But other times, Wolf Parade rocks out with guitar and synthesiser-lead stompers, especially "Fancy Claps" and "Shine A Light." These songs are particularly successful as they manage to channel both the psychic weirdnes of a band like Wilco and the stadium rock of Arcade Fire and create a sound entirely their own.
