The Ting Tings are Blondie updated. Sure, the music isn't the same: this is the 21st century after all, and there are a lot more electro hooks and digital whistles. But they both have the same attitude and a lead singer who would just as much kick you in the balls as serve you tea. Their singles combine just as much of The Go-Go's as M.I.A., so you'll want to clap your hands à la Mickey just as much as shake your ass.

Their 2008 album, We Started Nothing, immediately hits off with its two best singles: "Great DJ" and "That's Not My Name." Both will have you singing along, tapping your foot, and shaking your head. "Great DJ"'s chorus consists of singer Katie White screeching like a Howler monkey, but it all works perfectly. "That's Not My Name" is a rant against guys who forget girls' names but still try to pick them up none the less. The chorus, "they call me help, they call me Stacy, they call me her, they call me Jane, that's not my name," is the perfect anthem for anyone who has gotten tired of the bar scene.

"Shut Up And Let Me Go" is the most 80's-influenced song. It is a golden nugget of dance, hairspray, and leg warmers. As the album progresses, it becomes more rock influenced, which is when it really begins to take on tinges of Blondie.

None of this is to say that the album is just a parody or parroting: it is an update on some of the elements that made those original bands so classic, and since it combines so many of them, it is like a party with all of your best friends.
