Lykke Li - Youth NovelsSo in what is apparently the biggest event of the century, the world's newest Ikea is opening up four blocks away from my house in Brooklyn. People have camped out for days to be the first in the store and win a couch. Blogs cannot contain their froth and vigour. There are news vans parked out front.

So after walking to check it out, I had a serious craving for some Swedish music. And who better to serve it up than Swedish pop pixie Lykke Li, whose name is pronounced to sound just like "Luckily" in Swedish. Her 2008 album, Youth Novels, has been eagerly anticipated since she released her EP, Little Bit, last year. Music blogs have been atwitter about the album now that it's come out.

I can understand why. The album starts off uneven, with the strange confessional-cum-monologue-cum-downer of a starter, "Melodies & Desires," which is followed up with the track "Dance Dance Dance" that is too pixie for its own good.

But the album's third track, "I'm Good, I'm Gone" is as far as I'm concerned, one of the best pop songs in years. Featuring gorgeous vocals, a catchy bass line, playful pianos — the only thing the song is missing is the party it will be sure to inspire.

While maybe not as great as a free couch, Youth Novels is pretty damn hard to beat.
